The White Flyer AA target is the premier trap and skeet target made in the United States. Since 1979 it is unquestionably the target of choice for the competitive shooter. This is when Reagent Chemical & Research Inc. purchased White Flyer from Winchester and wisely landed the rights to use the AA moniker. By then Winchester’s AA shotshell, with its plastic hull innovation, had years of winning history. White Flyer knew their new dimple top design was also going to be a game changer and decided to brand the trap and skeet target with the AA logo.

Since then the AA target has been used at every major trap and skeet event including being the official target of the ATA Grand American World Trapshooting Championships and the NSSA World Skeet Championships for over 20 years. The defining characteristic of the AA target is the dimple top design which, much like a golf ball gives the target consistent flight characteristics. It also provides varying angled surfaces to allow even marginal shot placement to be effective. The AA target was made in four out of the five state of the art White Flyer plants with the exception of California.  In 1984 when White Flyer acquired the Eclipse target plant they continued to produce the “slot top” or “Eclipse” target that is, until now. White Flyer is excited to extend the iconic name and winning pedigree of the White Flyer AA trap and skeet target to all five plants. Starting in February the box design for trap and skeet targets will have the very recognizable AA logo and AA targets inside.

For those of you who grew up shooting the old west coast Eclipse pitch target or “slot top” don’t worry. The unique and proven design will live on in the White Flyer Blackout line. The best attributes of the Eclipse target have also been incorporated into the bottom of the AA target where you will notice additional slots or fracture lines extending further across the target. All of White Flyer targets meet or exceed ATA and NSSA target requirements and will continue to be offered in the full line of colors.

While all of the White Flyer targets meet the same specifications for size and weight their design characteristics cause them to fly slightly different in the same trap machine, resulting in a different landing zone. Because of this variance it is recommend during the switch to not mix the “slot top” and AA targets in a single trap during a registered event. Although the targets have been tested in a number of trap machines, there may be some slight adjustments to splitters or separators.
